Stone Wall - Selenium Toned Collodion Chloride POP
Stone Wall - Selenium Toned Collodion Chloride POP

Rhode Island is full of stone walls like this. I made this image at the John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Made with a 4x5 inch view camera and contact printed. Prints are toned in gold, platinum, or selenium. This makes the image archival and improves the image color.
Collodion Chloride Printing Out Paper is a silver printing process created in the latter part of the 19th century. Originally, it was a commercially produced product, but now the emulsion is hand-made. The variety of colors you can create from toning in gold or platinum solutions makes this process a lot of fun. The toning also makes the prints archival.
