Nico Scout: Music Outpost / by Ron Cowie

The music event at Nico Scout in Wakefield Rhode Island was something I wouldn’t normally go to on my own steam. My friend Matt Fraza sent me the flier, and I figured “What the heck!”

Matt is a multi-talented person who is very skilled at creating community. He’s one of the good ones, and I’m grateful to know him.

I’m starting to make peace with the fact that I can’t comfortably sit and watch something without doing something else at the same time. It’s why I’m a photographer. It’s why I doodle in meetings. I’m told it is a healthy thing to do, so take heart fellow restless doodlers.

The good news was this event had “Community Notebooks” so people could draw while listening to music. How about that?

This isn’t a review of the evening. I am not a critic, but an observer. As far as “vibes” go, it was nice. I was interested in the simple decor, genuine creative energy, and the variety of people in the room. As my Brooklynite brother, Robert, often says “It was a good hang.”

The photos are my impressions of what I saw that was interesting.
